San Francisco, CA
She is a Digital Media Technology Entrepreneur and creator of a Healthy Living Lifestyle brand focused on helping people with with food intolerances and allergies, maneuver through this wonderful journey called life. She's had food allergies since she was 4 and have been cooking since then. She has traveled all over the world eating whatever she wants. She has 31+ food allergies and have been an asthmatic for most of her life - but she is an athlete, marathon runner, biker and she eats for a living! Having experienced almost the same ordeals (asthma and food allergies) recently her story really speaks to me right now. So happy and honored to share this amazing chat with one of San Francisco's gems, Sonia Hunt.
WHO IS SONIA HUNT?
I’m a Taurus, non-vegetarian who loves my dog Snoop, outdoor activities, keeping in shape, spicy foods and dangly earrings. In all seriousness, you can say that I really live life - to learn and better myself, help those around me and innovate. I don’t take my self too seriously and I love to joke around. I exist not only to drive change but also to see it through.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
I look at it more like what inspires me. I get inspiration from everything around me – people, creatures, colors, art and especially my family. With an open mind If you put yourself out to the world, it will come back in great forms of inspiration that will motivate you to drive change.
WHAT KEEPS YOU BUSY THESE DAYS?
Unless you follow me online, most people may not know that I’m a Digital Media Technology Entrepreneur by heart. I own my own company where I build digital and mobile products and services for Global Brands. My clients are start-up companies to mid-to-large size organizations in the tech, entertainment, consumer electronics, mobile and food and wine world – clients pretty much keep me pretty busy.
I also have my ‘passion project’ which is my Healthy Living website at http://soniahunt.com, that really brings me much joy. I figured that I do such a great job for clients’ brands, I should just build my own brand
I created my website to help people with dietary restrictions, like food allergies, live their lives. My mantra is ‘Stay Safe, Live Healthy, & Eat Well’. I have a lot of food allergies since early childhood so I create content and experiences to show others how they can enjoy yummy life and foodie adventures just like me without being scared. Healthy Living is way more than just the food we put in our bodies, it’s a style of living your life – body, mind and spirit.
My next foodie event is July 22-29 for Holland America Cruises. I am their Culinary Talent aboard their Alaska Cruise and will be doing two seminars aboard the ship that I call ‘From Spice to Slim’. So come and join us – details are here: http://soniahunt.com/events/holland-america-cruise-july-22-29-2012#content
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING?
The first time that someone told me that my content really helped them I knew I had already won and made a difference. That’s what it’s all about to me, to help others feel like they are not alone and they don’t have to restrict their life to enjoy the same foodie experiences that everyone else does. We don’t want to be called out and be known as ‘the allergy girl’, we want to be ourselves. We may have to experiment with flavors and swap out ingredients but we should be informed and work together with Chefs and Restaurants. It’s about all of us working together. So far the work I’ve done seems to be headed in that right direction and getting great accolades.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOURSELF LATELY?
The one lesson I learned about myself while building my digital brand was just how creative I am and that people really can relate to me and approach me. It’s a great power to have. There is a lot of noise in life and to me it’s about finding an audience, contacting them, making a deep connection with them and then letting them experience different emotions.
WHAT FOR YOU IS LOVE?
It’s hard to really answer this question because I would say ‘What is not Love to me?’ I feel very blessed to have had such amazing life experiences and supporting family and friends. Without a deep gratitude and thankfulness for all that I have become I wouldn't t be able to pour my heart into ‘a voice’ and help others.
IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE RIGHT NOW AT THIS VERY MOMENT, WHERE DO YOU WISH TO BE?
I’m a dreamer at heart. I really live life everyday. I don’t have any regrets about things not accomplished. I work very hard to put together a path of goals that are realistic and accomplishable to move me forward in this wonderful journey called life. So I would be right here, but maybe that could also entail a gorgeous beach and a margarita.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF 2012 FOR YOU?
2012 is a big year for me spiritually. It represents one huge life journey that has come to a close and the next one that is just opening – in all respects: personal, work, and life projects. So I’m pretty jazzed up about what’s to come. Stay tuned!
WHAT IS THE FIRST STEP TO OVERCOMING FOOD INTOLERANCE/ALLERGIES?
Deep acceptance for who you are.
YOUR DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS.
I will never stop dreaming things and working hard to turn aspirations into fruition. Having a very successful career and being able to have a passion project that is loved by others – well let’s just say that life is great.
IF YOU COULD SHARE ONE MESSAGE TO THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, WHAT MESSAGE WOULD IT BE?
