SOULSPEAK WITH SOPHY M. LAUGHING , Ph.D.

"2012 looks like me, two kids, two dogs, 8 pieces of checked luggage/gear, 2 carry-ons for each person, school books on iPads ...and my kids climbing up to the top of the pyramid looking for Wifi signal."

Sophy Laughing is her real name. She is a part-time humor researcher, part-time CEO, and full-time traveling home schooling mother. When you visit her blog  you'll be welcomed with an inspiring note... "Humor is infectious. It lightens burdens, inspires hope, connects us to others, increases our insight, keeps us grounded, focused, alert, and happy. Laughter stimulates both sides of the brain. It allows us to get messages quicker and remember them longer. We all learn more when we are having fun." So true!  Sophy has so far dedicated her life spreading and studying humor and through Facebook and her page. In this time of wild changes we all need (and deserve) at least one good laugh each day. I am blessed to have a chance to share her energy to lighten up your day with love and laughter.

WHO IS SOPHY ?
"Soph" is my nickname. It is the name my best friend in college gave me. She considered me to be very wise, BUT a bit too optimistic - and she was concerned about my becoming disappointed with life. I told her that she was right, and agreed that it would be tough when disappointments hit.... IF I were looking for disappointments. I figure looking for the good in any situation is like looking for your car keys in the junk drawer; all those other things matter, but since you're focused on finding your keys, there's no need to get sidetracked by tape.

I'm not attached to "being" anything in particular. I am happy because I exist.

TELL ME ABOUT THE BIRTH OF 'SOPH LAUGHING'. HOW DID YOU DEVELOP THIS IDENTITY?
Last year, I legally changed my last name to "Laughing" because I love laughing and I want to be remembered that way. 'SophLy Laughing' is the name of my humor studies blog. It stands for "Sophy 'softLy' Laughing" ...Here, I'm a philosophical humorist (from the hours of 3am to 6am). This is when I conduct my research, work on my humor thesis, and share something fun or silly in my blog. I love to write and I enjoy dressing up ideas in new clothing - though I am not a fan of Fine Egocentric Garments.

DAY IN THE LIFE OF SOPH...

3:30 am: Wake up, smile, play with the dogs, make a cup of tea, go into my library to read/write.

4:30 am: Call my mom.

6 am: Workout

7:30 am: Breakfast with my family.

8:30 am: Life (Lessons, appointments, or daily projects).

Lunch with my family, friends, or colleagues.

More Life (Work and educational projects with my children).

Dinner with family, friends, or colleagues.

Evening: Watch a movie or read a book with my kids.

Nite: Go to bed thankful for the day and hopeful for another.

YOUR MOST MEMORABLE FEEDBACK OR TESTIMONIAL.
My family and friends have been SUPER! supportive of my writing. That puts a BIG SMILE on my face.

Regularly, visitors write to me telling me that 'Sophly Laughing' is their daily dose of humor medicine. I'm humbled by many notes I receive from people who are facing extremely difficult life situations like cancer, death of a loved one, or extreme metaphysical angst. Each person that has reached out to me has touched my heart, so it's incomprehensible to rank one over the others as being more memorable.

I suppose what's conceptually most memorable for me is the knowledge that we are all connected in very profound ways and humor really does bring us together.

WHAT OTHER PASSIONS ENRICH YOUR SPIRIT?
My children's happiness and my work in the preservation of our global heritage.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOURSELF FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?
I've learned that I am here. I learn new things every day. This brings me immense joy.

IF YOU CAN CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WORLD. WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I would like to make the world a safe place to be for every being on the planet.

WHY CHOOSE LAUGHTER?
Laughter is the strongest argument FOR the present, naturalistic approach to being yourself. Laughter feels good. Bringing laughter under scrutiny usually causes it to vanish. In some cultures, 'giggling' is considered to be self-humbling. Experts have shown that laughter offers many physiological as well as psychological benefits. Historically, laughter was ascribed to celebration, and in our earliest humans, was reportedly a way of communicating that there was no danger in the immediate environment. Sometimes just seeing the word 'laughter' brings a smile to someone's face. Laughing is a language that we all speak. Perhaps that's why it brings us together.

DREAMS & ASPIRATIONS.
I believe we are all gifted. I would love the opportunity to open a school to prove that everyone is gifted in some area of expression or understanding.

WHAT DOES 2012 LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
I have the privilege of working in the preservation of antiquities. In this capacity, I travel around the world in an attempt to conserve, preserve, and restore many remarkable objects that few people have or will ever have the opportunity to see and appreciate. I would like to share these pieces with the world and am in the process of opening a production company to make that a reality. I'm very excited! and I'm THRILLED to have the opportunity to take my children along with me on this adventure. When history comes to life, so too does our appreciation of human ingenuity, the history of human thought, our unicity, and our appreciation for one another.

Through cultural edification we can learn from each other in ways that allow us to make the appropriate advancements in life that will ultimately lead to everyone on the planet having what they need to survive in order to find what they need to truly 'live'.

So, to answer your question, 2012 looks like me, two kids, two dogs, 8 pieces of checked luggage/gear, 2 carry-ons for each person, school books on iPads ...and my kids climbing up to the top of the pyramid looking for Wifi signal.
