SOULSPEAK WITH SHIMSHAI

"Love... well, it's a medicine that connects us whether or not we like it or understand it. It brings our spirits together, not just as family, but as partners, lovers, friends... connecting even those who have passed on, or have never met."

From Our Roots To The Skies
He is a self-proclaimed seeker of truth and his music invokes a sentiment of ancestral devotion and a dedication to higher consciousness. Something that the world needs right now at this very moment. I remember the day I discovered Shimshai's music on Youtube, that was a significant moment in my life, much like a breath of heaven or an awakening  , and if asked to describe his music, I would say only one thing: Shimshai's songs  move me, and touches me  deeply  , I liken his voice to flowing water, that purifies, refreshes, and heals. Listening  to songs such as "I Sense Your Presence", "Come", "All That I am" , "Be Here Now" is always a magical experience for me, but not as magical as today, because I was lucky enough to get a chance to chat with the man behind these beautiful melodies -- melodies that can only come from the Soul of the Earth, speaking to us, from our roots to the skies.

Your songs, they're so uplifting, like something that can only come from dreams. Is this something you have seen yourself doing, or dreamed up when you were a child?
My parents were both into music. At a very young age I learned to play instruments, piano was the first thing I learned  from my dad. My mom sings and plays the guitar. But it was only until I was a teenager that I really  got serious about it.

Tell me about the birth of your music and healing work that came along with it.
It took a while for it to come... but I can tell you that I was born into a very spiritual community, so I embraced a lot of the principles and learned to live them daily. But it was listening to old reggae,  Bob Marley and Jamaican music that encouraged me to dig deeper into my spirituality and led me to create more of this type of music.

Do you have any other passions?
I've always been fascinated with wood, building things, crafts... we live by the forest so gardening is also something I enjoy, as well as other things that home life opened up for me.

I hear you have kids now? How has that changed your life?
Yes I have 2 kids, it's been great wonderful process and it changed my ability to be out there, and working. I spend less time traveling and recording. It's also brought about a different aspect of the music I do... and  I've also started to become more conscious of the business end of it too... playing in concerts, etc...  It helps put direction into my life, and puts things in perspective.

Your main motivation for all that you do.
It's really that drive for my own little world and what I want to do  so that I can serve humanity that motivates me... and when I forget that,  I just have to remember the many people who are suffering, and in need of healing.

How would you define LOVE?
Wow... that's one of those questions where the answer is so many things ... How do you answer that precisely?  ... I don't even know to begin ! (laughs)  Love... well, it's a medicine that connects us whether or not we like it or understand it. It brings our spirits together, not just as family, but as partners, lovers, friends... connecting even those who have passed on, or have never met

Beautiful.... So, what's next? What should we watch out for?
We'll be takin' it easy for the winter, right now we're just  finishing a brand new cd, no big plans of traveling as of yet.

Your ONE MESSAGE to the world.
Reclaim responsibility for your life and your Spirituality. Know the discipline that comes in embodying this  gift, so that you may pass it on to your children and your children's children.
